Truck Repair Services Improved With Advancements in Technology

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Recently, a FixonRoad.com™ blog entry focused on the fact that tractor trailer and body makers have been concentrating on trucking industry research and development.

Lift Axle Truck Parts

The lift axle is also set to automatically raise or deploy depending on the weight of the trailer’s load.

One such advancement in the trucking industry is the lift axle.  A sensor-activated lift axle can be mounted at the forward position of an aluminum trailer to reduce stress on its haul.  The lift axle is also set to automatically raise or deploy depending on the weight of the trailer’s load.  This reduces tire scuffing and increases the life of the tire while lengthening the time between tire service.

A new innovation in the trucking world is the Equalizer.  It is a nitrogen-assisted weight-transfer system utilized in spread axle trailers. By transferring truck loads hydraulically, it softens road shock resulting in a smoother ride.  A smoother ride means less truck repair services are needed.

High center obstructions can cause truck collision damage resulting in higher and more frequent truck repair bills and services.  Tough side skirts have been known to lower fuel costs and resist collision damage to trucks.  Galvanized steel along with UV-protected fiberglass-reinforced plastic panels are corrosion resistant and flexible.  These features are sure to result in a decrease in the need for truck repair services.

Tractor Trailer side skirts truck parts

Flexible Skirts are available for dry freight and refrigerated trailers. The skirts are made of a flexible plastic that are made to withstand side and bottom impacts.

There are several innovations to the trucking industry – one of the latest additions is improved trailer side skirts.  The new trailer skirts are made from aluminum skins and steel braces.  Sixteen inches of flexible rubber ensure that the trailer skirts pass without being damaged by roadway obstructions such as large snow piles and railroad crossings.  Not only will the trailer skirts help to reduce truck repair and maintenance, but they are also fuel efficient.

Another innovation to the trucking industry is a trailer undertray system that is a device aimed at reducing drag associated with trailer underside components. The innovative truck part features wheel and suspension fairings as well as a rear fairing and aero rain gutters.  This amazing truck part works by compressing and accelerating incoming air flow while injecting high energy air into trailer wake. This truck device can greatly reduce trailer drag.

Finally, lightweight walls are another trucking innovation that is on the horizon.  Lightweight walls are made of a polypropylene-and-fiberglass core sandwiched by skins of resin and gelcoat.  It can be cut to any needed length, usually up to 26 feet and it can greatly reduce fuel and truck repair costs.

Trucking Industry Features More Advancements in Technology

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

In a recent FixonRoad.com™ blog entry, it was reported that tractor trailer and body makers have been increasing spending on research and development to advance truck parts and truck products to improve efficiency.

Steerable Axles Truck Parts

Powered steerable axles are in the works as well. These innovative truck parts allow long box trailers to go where they were unable to go before and should also reduce truck repair and service due to less wear and tear.

Here is some more information about advancements in the trucking industry aimed at improving the trucking industry as a whole.  A new hybrid dump trailer is on the way and if it passes the truck testing standards – it may start production later this year.

The state of the art designed flat/half-round profile will yield 2 cubic yards more volume than a traditional straight half-round trailer of the same length.  It also weighs a lot less.

Powered steerable axles are in the works as well.  These innovative truck parts allow long box trailers to go where they were unable to go before and should also reduce truck repair and service due to less wear and tear.  Also, the chip trailers carry wood waste from left over timber cutting and transport it to co-generation plants to assist in the production of electricity.

Trailers are being modified to be more stable.  Tandem trailers feature all wheels of the truck remaining on the ground while the trailer rises.  This trucking modification makes the trailer more stable during tipping than other trucks whose forward axles rise with the body.
