FixonRoad.com™ reports that the American Trucking Associations is opposed to the FREIGHT Act of 2010.  If passed, the new Senate legislation would set a national freight transportation policy that would make highways ineligible for funding outside of limited connectors to freight terminals.

The trucking bill was introduced by Senator Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey.  Lautenberg is the chairman of the Surface Transportation Subcommittee of the Senate Commerce Committee.  This Committee regulates much of the activity of freightliner transportation in the United States.

The FREIGHT Act of 2010 aims to give the country an official freight policy for the first time in our nation’s history.  The goal of the act is to improve the efficiency, operation, and security of the national transportation system to move freight.

Part of the freight bill is to provide a framework for freight investment and planning.  Another measure of the freight bill is to set goals centered on reducing delays at international points of entry.  In addition, the freight bill aims to make transit times along freight corridors more reliable, while improving safety and reducing air pollution.

The ATA appreciates the fact that the Senate considers freight transportation an area of importance.  However, the ATA feels that the legislation does not fix the highway funding crisis.

The first ever Touch-a-Truck show was a big hit with kids!  It could be because the admission to the Big Rig Truck Show was free – but nonetheless – everyone loved the Truck Show.  Truck enthusiasts big and small from all over came out to Overland Park in Johnson County to wish the city a happy 50th birthday.

Families came down by the thousands to participate in the first-ever Touch-a-Truck event.  There was a giant maze of vehicles including emergency service vehicles, emergency trucks, semi-truck trailers, Big Rigs, 18 wheelers, buses, freightliners, tractor trailers, low boys, reefers, fire trucks, farm vehicles, a police command center, and even a Pepsi truck.

By noon, there were just about 3,000 people waiting in line just to get the chance to touch a truck.

Also on hand were Truck Service Repair providers who specialized in emergency truck road service, mobile truck service, semi truck trailer repair, truck towing, truck tire service, and truck A/C repair.  The Touch-a-Truck event gave truck enthusiasts a chance to meet truck owners and truck service providers.

In all, over 5,000 visitors attended the event and because of its success don’t be surprised if you see a Touch-a-Truck event come to your city soon.

This truck device can greatly reduce trailer drag.

Finally, lightweight walls are another trucking innovation that is on the horizon.  Lightweight walls are made of a polypropylene-and-fiberglass core sandwiched by skins of resin and gelcoat.  It can be cut to any needed length, usually up to 26 feet and it can greatly reduce fuel and truck repair costs.
